I'm going to Saskatoon this weekend. I am already feeling the pull of the yarn store. I need some extra strength to resist temptation this weekend. Wish me luck.

Photo Gallery

Finally some pictures of all the crafting that has been accomplished of late.

A quilt top I finished Sunday evening. It's based on this quilt over at Quiltville.

I'm calling it Cherry Bricks because of all the cherries and reds in the fabrics.

I finally got a picture of Gabby and her pick pockets on Monday morning.

Because of the angle of the shot, she looks like she has enormous hands. She doesn't. She made me say that.

Plus a shot of the scarf I mentioned last post. I was wrong about the colourways, though. One is Purple Iris, as I mentioned, but the other is Watercolour.

It's lovely no matter what the colours are called.

Then we have one of the mittens done for Toni.

I've had a nasty time trying to get the other one done, though. I really should remember to right down the decreases as I do them on the first mitten. Because I'm making the pattern up as I go, the second mitten has been having issues with matching to the first. :P

Finally, I got two new organizers for under the coffee table. They help to keep the knitting from taking over the living room but also keep current projects within reach. Perfect! (Please excuse Emmett's nose in the top right hand corner.)


Okay, well that's my gallery tour for the day. Haven't done anything crafy since Sunday but hoping to get something accomplished this evening.

This Week In Crafting News

Less posting has meant more crafting this week.

I finally finished that pair of pick pockets but gave them away without a pic. (Tick in the finished column anyway. )

I've started a new scarf for me out of Lorna's Laces Bullfrogs and Butterflies in Buck's Bar and Purple Iris colourways. Gorgeous! (Tick in the cast on column. )

I've been working on a pair of pink and brown mittens for the sale pile, too. (Another tick.)

I also spent all day yesterday working on a new quilt top. (Half a tick. )

But alas, no pictures of any of them. Camera is at home and I am at school. (Tick in the "doh" column.)

Despite the lack of pictures, I have managed to upload some images of the online shopping I've been doing. (Tick in the "avoiding knitting supplies but spending money anyway" column.)


I've had my eye on the Knitting On The Road book for a long time. It's the idea of Canada socks that really pulls me to it. (Tick in the good excuse column.)

I'm hoping Knit One, Kill Two might be just what I need to get me out of my reading funk this week. Haven't been able to settle into anything. (Tick in the "I think they'll fall for that" column.)

And last but not least, Vertigo is one of my all time fav movies that I have owned twice now but seem to have managed to give away both times. What's up with that?! (Tick in the "maybe they'll feel sorry for me" column.)

So I'm thinking I should get even more good winter knitting in with these goodies! (Tick in the "that's my story and I'm sticking to it" column.)

Is It Cheating?

I ordered this book a month ago and it finally came in last Friday. I've read wonderful things about it on several blogs and hope it will help me with my spinning.

So my rationalization for this deviation from the craft diet is this: I need it to help me use up my craft supplies, especially in the spinning department.

Besides, is it really cheating? It's not technically craft supplies. I don't think I mentioned that I was going on a book diet. At least not yet.

Knitting has been on the skids this week. I have been trying to make another pair of pick pockets since Monday and it's been a tangle. I've pulled them apart three times and am finally getting to it today. Considering it takes me less than an hour to make one, I think I've spent about four hours on just the left hand.

I blame it on my knitting injury - yeah, that sore wrist. That's what it is. Sure.

My, but I am good at the fine art of evasion today.

All But One

This is Dudley.

He's the only one of the puppy pack that keeps coming back. The rest have been sent on their way.

He is terribly cute and so playful. But he is still a puppy and I don't have room for anymore at my house. So unless someone claims him before next Friday, I'll be dropping him off at the SPCA when I go to Saskatoon.

I'm sure he'll get adopted quickly because he is such a charmer. Couple this with his cuteness and he's very hard to resist. Trust me, I know.

My dogs are not as easily impressed. They find him completely resistable and somewhat annoying. Especially since he wants to sit ON the food bin to keep them all away from it . . . like he owns it or something. The cheek of that guy!

They keep lecturing him but he's just not listening. Imagine that! A puppy that doesn't listen? We've never had any of those before! Ha!

Winter Came Anyway

Even though I didn't get a scarf made for me yet. Still, it's awfully pretty around here.

A parent commented the other day that I was wearing a non-knitted tartan scarf and, as a knitter, am I not required to wear a knitted one. I'm still looking through the Knitting Rule Book about that one.

In knitting (er, maybe, non-knitting) news, remember this:

I loved working on this back in January. I picked it up again this weekend. With my out-of-practice fingers, things got tight . . . and messy . . . and blech.

Now it looks like this:

I will definitely try it again, and soon, but for now, it's been ripped.

Part of this weekend's organizing, resting, crafting buzz was to tidy up the craft room, let some projects go, finish up some others, filling an order or two. Very successful, in those terms.

I still have a few more things to clear up but I'm hoping by the end of next weekend that I'll be able to start a couple of new things. Or more likely, I'll start them whether the other ones are finished or not! :p

Alright then, I guess I better get on with this day.

Day of Domestica

I've been knitting so much today, my wrist is starting to hurt.

None the less, I started and finished two chemo caps for a friend.

And I've cast on for a mitten (sorry, no pic).

Plus I made oatmeal cookies.


And pumpkin, oatmeal, walnut muffins.


In hindsight, mixing batter for baked goods probably wasn't the rest my wrist needed. It was fun, though, and worth it! Yummers!

Trena Socks

Another project off the needles. So named for my friend, Trena, the recipient.


Update on the puppies:
The Mum-dog left the pups behind on my doorstep for two days and two nights. I, of course, let them sleep in the porch so they wouldn't freeze to death. I managed to catch one and send him to the SPCA in Saskatoon with a friend. The others have been sent back to the original owners, thanks to info from my students. If they wander back to my house, I'll probably wrangle them up and send them all to the SPCA. I'd rather they took their chances at being adopted than having to watch them freeze/starve to death in front of my eyes.

It's a snowy, quiet winter's day here and I've spent the morning doing housework, sealing up the windows to drafts, cleaning up the puppy mess in the porch. Now I'm going to sit down with some yummy movies and a lot of knitting in my lap.

Puppy Hotline

I tried to leave my house today only to find this on my doorstep.

Not one, but 4 puppies and one Mum-dog, blocking the way.

Is there a hotline in town? One that spreads the rumour that I am a soft touch?

Or maybe they can see that sign on my forehead that says "sucker" in doggy speak.

If you're in the neighbourhood (yes, of my remote northern town), maybe you can send in some hot chocolate supplies!

The Opposite of Startitis

Finally! A pair of socks finished. And these ones are for me. I am very pleased.

The yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Vera. I love this colourway.

Also . . . Remember that orange bag from the summer? Well I finished the knitting last night and it's blocking right now.

I still need to line it and seam it up.

I'm not quite sure what has gotten into me. I just feel like I need to get some of these projects off the needles and clear them up. Every now and then, I like to finish or retire all the things that are on-going so I can start a whole bunch of new ones. I love knitting for that!
